You should start brand building as soon as you realize that you want your business venture to bigger than run of the mill everyday rinky dink things you see.
Important Components of Brand Building!

Quality: Quality is a vital ingredient of a good brand! The things consumers expect must be delivered well, consistently. If you develop a branded products with too many faults it will never gain brand equity.
The old saying reigns true Quality over quantity. Some people believe the more you have of something the better for your brand, this is a myth. One great product will have a better repercussion on your brand than 20 faulted ones.
Positioning: Positioning is where a brand is in its target market! Strong brands have clear position in their market. Positioning can be achieved through several means Brand name, image, product packaging, logo, and product guarantees.
Repositioning: Repositioning occurs when a brand needs to change its target market because its market has changed, due to trends or other contributing aspects.
COMMUNICATION: Needless to say communications plays a important role in brand building. All elements of promotions need to be used to build and sustain customer perception! Initially the challenge is to build awareness, then develop brand personality, and finally reinforce the perception.
INTERNAL MARKETING: You should ensure that your brand is being marketing internally as well as externally and that everyone who is involved with the brand understands the brands values and positioning.
